Queervallis Showcase!
Bringing Pride back to Corvallis!
When first walking into the Queervallis Showcase guests are treated to the sight of showy makeup, frilly skirts and some impressively tall heels.
The Queervallis Showcase, held at the Whiteside theatre is a drag showcase fundraiser for Corvallis Pride. The city of Corvallis has not had an official pride festival for many years, but members of The Haus of Dharma are working to change that. This showcase featured performances from reigning Ms. Mr. and Mx. Queervallis pageant winners along with other special guests.
The host, Petunia Rufflebottom, provided a great deal of humor to the show with witty anecdotes and amusing stories between the performances. This included having the audience members make a pledge to not vape inside the theatre.
“Repeat after me. I pledge not to do a vapey inside the theatre.”
The show opened with a performance from the reigning Mx. Corvallis, Perry Dox. Following this performance was the reigning Ms. Northwest Fierce, Puanani Posse. Who gave the audience a dazzling performance to Show Yourself by Evan Rachel Wood and Indina Menzel. This included an impressive costume and wig change mid performance. The showcase continued with performances from Fisky the Trans Reindeer, who is the mother of The Haus of Dharma. The reigning Mr. Corvallis, Clyde Maxx, Belle Aire, Juno Harm, Spunk Rock, Ho Jahbi, and Carmen Sutra.
Petunia Rufflebottom informed the audience of several upcoming performances, including a Pokemon themed drag show on March 21, at the Whiteside theatre.
“If you were going to eat a Pokemon, which one would you choose?” Petunia Rufflebottom asked the audience in between performances.
Nearly 100 tickets were sold for this showcase. Along with the ticket sales, raffle tickets were sold before the show. The raffle winners were announced during the intermission. The prizes included gift cards to local queer owned businesses Green House Coffee and the Biere Library.
Those interested in showing their support for Queervallis, the Haus of Dharma, or Corvallis pride can do so by attending upcoming events.
